Some people call me an assassin, I prefer the term bounty hunter.
In a world where magic is hidden from the general population, I'm hired to keep our secrets safe and take care of rogues by whatever means necessary.
When I accidentally targeted the wrong person, the Supernatural Bureau of Investigation offered me a deal — go to jail or work for them. Their first official request was to locate a vampire I thought I had killed over a year ago: my ex-boyfriend. Now I'm ordered to deliver him to them without harming a hair on his gorgeous head.
That was going to be a problem. By the time I find him, he's going to wish he had stayed dead.
Supernatural Slayer is an action-packed urban fantasy romp through Barcelona with an assorted cast of witches, vampires, and shifters. It may also feature a snarky gargoyle or two.
"No human beings were harmed in the writing of this book — only supernaturals."
My Thoughts
Prior to author Devyn Jayse contacting me about reviewing the ARC for this new urban fantasy book, Supernatural Slayer, I had checked out Devyn's other books.
If you are not familiar with Devyn Jayse. She is the author of the Magic Runes and Dare Valari series of fantasy novels. These usually have kick butt strong heroines who battle something sinister in a magical setting.
In the case of this Supernatural Slayer, the protagonist, Aisha, is a bounty hunter. Unlike the previous book I reviewed where the bounty hunter was from the old west and had to bring in humans, Aisha works high-priced catches for the supernatural world and her bounty is for Shifters, Vampires, and Witches.
This tale begins with Aisha attempting to bring in a wolf shifter. During their battle, we learn bounty hunting in the supernatural world is not easy. Shifters have regenerative powers and some carry magic dispellers. Unfortunately, this can affect the chance of bringing in a living bounty and a live bounty is always preferred because it pays better than a dead one.
In this world, the supernaturals manipulate human politics. To network, Aisha often strolls to the bridge, pass the Gothic quarter, to talk with the gargoyle, Mateu. Aisha keeps in mind the importance of being careful so the others don't hear because gargoyles are famous for gossiping.
Dark and mysterious undertones are evident throughout this read. Despite the fact that Aisha is nose-blind she can still smell the stink of some Trolls and even though Aisha's specialty is the Demons, she's aware of the alpha Dragon Shifter.
Bounty hunting was just a side job for Aisha's, anyway. She's part witch and loves weaponry and her main source of income was always high profile assignations, that is until she signs a contract with the (SBI) Supernatural Bureau of Investigation. Once she signs on with them they call the shots and her first target is the x-boyfriend she believes she already killed.
Life events have definitely taught her that Vampires take Vampire kills very seriously. Yes! If you piss off a Vampire you're as good as dead and only a Vampire can turn the dead.
However, all is not as it seems, in this supernatural world. Highly regulated are charmstones, when they are worn by humans everything hidden is revealed.
In closing, this storyline is intriguing. I enjoy the characters and want to discover more about this supernatural world.
I received this ebook through the generosity of the author.
