Description
VKs - Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos - have been invited to attend Auradon Prep! But they have a sneaky plan to steal the fairy godmother's wand to rescue their parents from exile and let chaos reign over the people of the United States of Auradon. As the VKs tour the campus, they are introduced to the children of Disney's most famous heroes - Ben, Audrey, Jane and Chad. After a spirited but ultimately fruitless attempt at stealing the wand, they are forced to continue their new double lives in the academy while they work together to concoct a new evil scheme.
My Thoughts
I had not seen Disney Descendants prior to reading this. I love the concept of villan's kids though and will be checking out more of the Descendants. There are so many characters and relationships that can be explored. This story was fast paced with lots of action. Basically, it reads like a series of adventures. I felt the writing flowed well and it was sometimes comical. The art is outstanding. Manga is so diverse...the panel layout and speech bubble placement worked well. I find I want to cheer for the 4 villan kids because you see by their expressions - they care for one another and they work well together as a team. They are adjusting to life in Auradon and have met new acquaintances, are involved with building relationships, but haven't given up on the wand.
The breakdown (spoilers ) below.
This story starts out with Mal spotting Jay running by. He's being chased. Mal finds Carlos. and Carlos comes up with a cunning way to help out Jay. Before long, Evie is involved in the plan. Once Jay is safe, the four villan kids (VKs) meet up with Mals mother Maleficent. She tells them they have been chosen to go to school in Aurandon. They aren't interested. But, Malificent states they must go steal the Fairy Godmother's wand.
The 4 VKs arrive in Aurandon and meet Ben, Audrey and Doug. Shortly after the girls spilt from the boys. Carlos and Jay bump into Chad who is bragging about his game and Evie and Mal go to the library but soon after get kicked out.
Mal has to remind all that they are there for the wand and she gets out the mirror to look and see where the wand is... it's in the museum.
The 4 sneak out of the school and go to the museum. They put the night watchman to sleep and start searching rooms for the wand. They come upon a room of statues ( my favorite part). They find the wand but Jay soon learns it's protected.
They return to school and take a Remedial Goodness class. They are introduced to Jane. Mal tries to obtain information about the wand. Meanwhile, Evie is having a conversation with Doug which Chad happily interrupts. And during this time, Jay and Carlos are on the field playing a game.
We see the 4 vk's are adjusting to life in Auradon. They have a lot going on but they haven't given up on the wand.
