Description
The Cycling Wangdoos is an imaginative, fun-to-read rhyming tale of a Tibetan racing team who ride on a six-seater bicycle with a wacky yak on the back. They have a long record of winning races by working together until the smallest Wangdoo begins to think he’s pulling more than his fair share of the weight. Find out what happens when his discontentment quickly spreads through the team and the Wangdoos’ race takes a dangerous turn. When the race is over, the riders are left with a hard-learned lesson—that teams work best when everyone does their part. Laugh-out-loud illustrations bring this delightful story to life. Ages 0-6.
My Thoughts
When I first viewed the cover, without reading the description, I went into thinking this book was going to be some kind of 'be kind to all animals book'. And it is nothing like that.
I opened this book and immediately the author told me what Wangdoo is and explained the topography of Tibet.
As the adorable rhyming begins, we learn many valuable lessons...don't be selfish... never give up... it only takes teamwork. This is all given to us under the guise of the silliest cycling race I've ever seen. And while we giggle because the illustrations are wonderfully hilarious, it is showing us what can occur when we don't follow bicycle safety guidelines. This will be useful for part of a storytime hour as well as for classroom discussion. This book is awesome!
