Synopsis

Quinn O’Connell led a remarkable life, yet she lacked celebrity or notoriety. Born in 1939, she was part of a generation that exemplified a tenacity of spirit and grit that contrasts sharply with today’s culture. By the time she was thirteen years old, she experienced on-going sexual abuse, a drastic consequence of that abuse, and a sacrifice nearly too great to endure. Quinn was an imperfect person who struggled every day to find her place in the world as life knocked, nicked, and bruised her, but through it all she persevered and prevailed. Her story is not a real-life fairy tale, and while it is brutal and sad, it is also beautiful. It’s a story that exemplifies the value of perseverance and the power of choice.

My Thoughts

Erin Walsh Hardesty and Michael Blass have teamed up to create this incredible novel with shocking plot twists. Erin is the biological daughter of the real-life person on which Quinn O'Connell's character is based.

This was an emotional read. I was very impressed with both authors ability to pull me into this story right away and I felt actively invested in the outcomes of many of the characters.

The story centers around Quinn O'Connell. Quinn, born in 1939, has grown up in a very restrictive environment, bound by the rules and abuse of her stepfather Sonny.

I thought this story was very well written. And, I liked it when on page four Grandma related the story about the baby bird as it gave us a hint of things yet to come in this read.

The sacrifices Quinn made and perseverance she portrays show she is of strong character, very brave, and easy to admire.

My favorite quote – "If you don’t believe in the bright possibilities of tomorrow, you stay stuck in today forever.”

Together Hardesty and Blass formed No Little Choices, LLC, a consulting company that educates individuals and organizations about the power of choice in personal and professional development. They are currently working on additional novels as sequels to No Little Choices, as part of the sherrilrose series.
