My Thoughts

As the title implies, this book is about one groovy summer in 1968.

In the beginning, author Rocky Gregory introduces readers to Will Hinklemeyer, a young man who created some troubles at home so was sent off to military school, where he and his roommate Skip have finished off their senior year of high school, and plan a summer adventure.

This book reads like a young man's memoir and is full of 60's nostalgia. I really like that it includes automobiles, songs, shows and other pop culture items and jargon of that era. It's also good that it includes humor.

This book does express the challenges of returning home again after being away for awhile. We see Will returns from military school to his hometown and people think he was just back from Vietnam. And right away he gets himself into the sticky situation of being used to make another guy jealous.

This book was a quick and easy read. There were no complex characters just guys living free throughout an unrestrained summer with time spent in the mid-Atlantic and Midwest.

I received this book from Publicity Associate, Laurie Childree, for an honest review.
