Synopsis
Shatter Me Book 1; One touch is all it takes. One touch and Juliette Ferrars can leave a fully grown man gasping for air. One touch, and she can kill.
No one knows why Juliette has such incredible power. It feels like a curse, a burden that one person alone could never bear. But The Reestablishment sees it as a gift, sees her as an opportunity. An opportunity for a deadly weapon.
Juliette has never fought for herself before. But when she’s reunited with the one person who ever cared about her, she finds a strength she never knew she had.
My Thoughts
This book was a very addictive read from the very beginning.
I thought about those words as I discussed the Shatter Me series with a teenager.
Shatter Me is a young adult dystopian thriller written by Tahereh Mafi, published on November 15, 2011 . The book is narrated by Juliette, a 17-year-old girl with a lethal touch and is unusual in that it contains passages and lines that have been crossed out. The second book in the series, Unravel Me, was published on February 5, 2013 . The third book in the series, Ignite Me, was published on February 4, 2014 . And, the fourth book "Restore Me," was published on March 6, 2018 .
It is interesting to get a youth's perspective on this series. You have a whole new appreciation for the books as well as an insight into what it is that draws them into the read.
When I initially read the blurb about the book, I immediately thought of a character I always like named Rogue (Anna Marie), a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. I felt sympathetic to Rogue's character draining the life force from anyone she touches. And when I read a dystopian novel it is often the world building that pulls me in. But in all honesty, it was the writing that lured me into this read. The metaphors and the heavy strikethrough method, I found peculiar.
When the teenager started this series, I learned it was the character development that drew her into the Shatter Me series and she confessed that she read the first 2 books in a short amount of time as she was invested in the reading.
She happily discussed the books with me, expressing her affection for a story. She went into detail about Adam and Warner's relationship and how they were both interested in Juliette. But more than that, she was drawn to the suspense of what was about to happen.

So, if you have read this series what it is that pulled you in?
