Review: Tao Calligraphy to Heal and Rejuvenate Your Back Master Zhi Gang Sha

Many years ago I attended classes at an art museum. During my classes, I learned the elements and principles of art and concentrated my studies on watercolor and ink washes where you saturate an area of your paper with water and dip your brush and dab it onto the wet area of your paper.

My focus was concentrated on the creative process and I recognized that my brush strokes brought my emotions to a visible form. As I moved my brush along the paper, my thoughts were pushed aside. I no longer had my mind on things that had frustrated or challenged me. Instead,  I was in a  meditative-like state and had a sense of calmness

Chinese, Japanese, Middle Eastern, and many other cultures use Calligraphy as art, and a form of meditation to bring wholeness.

I've missed going to gallery exhibitions and viewing works of art and was drawn to pick up the book Tao Calligraphy as Chinese calligraphy and ink and wash painting are closely related. To me, there is something positive and peaceful in gliding a single brushstroke across a piece of paper.

This book goes beyond art studies though as doctor Sha is a registered acupuncturist in Canada. and a Tai Chi practitioner. He trained in advanced cellular healing sciences and is involved in the West in research on effects on the human system. He provides practical, easy-to-do practices, that include chanting mantras to help with back pain.

Master Sha founded the Tao Academy to offer courses, workshops, retreats, and certification programs to spread the Tao teachings and with this book. I learned that the Love Peace Harmony Foundation he formed reinforces wellness and helps with humanitarian work in providing support to malnourished children and bringing clean, freshwater to communities that are in desperate need of it.
