Dickens of London, Wolf Mankowitz

I've mentioned numerous times here that I love Charles Dickens. Well, earlier this month, I stopped in at the Next Page Bookstore and More and, while scanning the shelves, found a hardcover of Dickens of London, written by Wolf Mankowitz. This book explores the life of Charles Dickens and his connection to the city that shaped so much of his writing.

Dickens and London often seem inseparable. The crowded streets, the contrasts between wealth and poverty, and the lives of ordinary people all found their way into his stories. I’m always interested in books that explore this relationship and give me a better sense of the city he knew. The illustrations are a wonderful bonus, making this more than a book to read; it’s also one to spend time studying. I feel this was a good find for my shelves.
