Amish fiction has become a favorite of Mom’s, so I’ve been searching bookstores for more books to add to her reading pile. Many of the books she has read this year are by Beverly Lewis and Wanda Brunstetter, two authors known for their Amish stories. Shelley Shepard Gray is another author whose books I’ve been finding for her.
There’s something comforting about stepping into a simpler way of life and following characters as they work through relationships, difficult choices, faith, family, and second chances.
When I was browsing at the bookstore, the bookseller there mentioned that Amish books are in high demand. It seems Mom isn’t the only one who enjoys these stories! With so many readers looking for them, I’m happy to keep searching the shelves and see what I can find.
Mom has been reading up a storm, finishing around 40 books already this year, and she’s ready for more. Naturally, she asked me to see what I could find for her.
With my bookish nature, gifting Mom books is something I genuinely enjoy. It gives me another reason to wander through bookstores, browse the shelves, and see what treasures I can find. There’s something special about discovering a book I know she hasn’t read and knowing it will bring her more reading enjoyment.
My last delivery was a bag of 19 books I purchased during a bag sale. Nineteen! I thought that might keep her busy for a while, but she has been reading right along, and now she’s ready for another batch.
This week, I managed to find seven more books she hasn’t read. I always enjoy the search, whether I’m browsing a used bookstore or looking through a stack of books that might otherwise be overlooked. You never quite know what you’ll find, and that’s part of the fun.
The books don’t stop with Mom, either. Once she finishes reading them, she shares them with friends and family, giving those stories another chance to be enjoyed. I like knowing that the books I find for her will eventually make their way into other hands, too. One book can bring enjoyment to several readers, and I think that’s a lovely thing.
For me, gifting Mom books is about more than adding to her reading pile. It’s a way to share something I love with someone I love. We both enjoy reading, and I’m happy to help keep her supplied with stories to discover.
With around 40 books already read and more on her wish list, I may need to keep my eyes open whenever I pass a bookstore. Fortunately, I’ve never been very good at passing one by anyway!
For now, seven more books are waiting to be enjoyed. I wonder how long this latest batch will last before Mom asks me to start searching again.
