December 2022 Reads and Winterchills

A Chilly Christmas and a New Puppy in December

As you can see from the photo above, our area didn’t get much snow this year, but just before Christmas Eve, we experienced a cold snap that brought temperatures down to -9°C, with wind chills plunging to a frigid -39°C. The weather forecast warned of heavy snow and gusty winds, and this, naturally, caused a bit of panic in our family. So much so, in fact, that we did something we had never done before: we moved our Christmas celebration to an earlier date.

It was a last-minute decision, but luckily, the gifts were already wrapped, so all we had to worry about were schedule changes, drive times, and food prep. In the end, everything worked out wonderfully. We managed to gather together before the temperature really dropped, and we had a fantastic time celebrating—chilly weather aside!

We Adopted a Puppy!

On top of the holiday hustle, December turned out to be even busier than expected for us. We welcomed a new member into our family—a playful and affectionate puppy- Bernedoodle! She’s full of energy, and we’re still trying to keep up with her. While we wish we had half the energy she does, it’s been such a joy having her around. She’s already brought so much love and laughter into our home.

December was a month of unexpected changes, but in the end, it turned out to be one of the most memorable yet. Here's to new traditions, cold-weather adventures, and the joy that a puppy brings!

Book Adaptations

New or upcoming movies and television shows based on books continue to be the rage so I have introduced more book adaptations in 2022 and will continue to do so.

Recently, I revisited The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin as it has been made into a movie available on Amazon Prime.  Last year, I interviewed Allen Wolf and recently had communication with him and posted that The Sound of Violet is available on Apple TV, Google Play, Prime Video, or Vudum Blu-ray and DVD with special bonus features.

Guessing Games and Book Emojis

This month, I played a few games one was "Can you guess the book titles by emoji?"  And the other was "Guess the Christmas Carol". Both were a fun way to pass time.

Penguins Books release their emotional emojis which lead me to
look at the trailer for Miss Peregrine's Museum of Wonders

Miss Peregrine is a familiar name and I love this title because it immediately makes me question things.

I was fascinated with Celeste Ng talking about her process for writing and how she started off as a reader. She discusses her latest bestseller, Our Missing Hearts, here

This year was another opportunity to interview many intriguing authors and it was a delightful year of words. I want to thank all who provided me with free manuscripts for my review.
