Beside Lake Beautiful by William A. Quayle
Review: Beside Lake Beautiful by William A. Quayle
Many of you know I spend a lot of my free time at the Great Lakes where I commune with nature.
Well, I was searching the shelves of one of my favorite bookstores a few weeks back and stumbled upon a copy of the antiquarian book Beside Lake Beautiful by William A. Quayle. I pulled it from the shelf and leafed through it and could not put it back down. So, I purchased it.
As you can see, this 1914 book has a well-worn hardcover. It's a forest green cloth. The top edges are gilt and there is a sailboat design stamped in gilt on the front cover.
William A. Quayle was an outdoorsman and in this book, he describes experiences with God in nature at a midwestern lakeside retreat.
What really caught my eye was that in addition to the text are illustrated B&W photograph reproductions of forest and lakeside scenes.
I am often taking photographs of the places we journey to and the Great Lake offers many fascinating views.
