Review: Box of Birds

I was speaking with Mom and a friend of hers emailed her about her granddaughter who is now practicing medicine in New Zealand. It was with this in mind that I happened upon Dr. Stephen Stowers's blog and his book Box of Birds which was gifted to me by Stress Free Book Marketing.

Many of us ponder life, our achievements, and our susceptibility to illness or adverse conditions but some may not recognize the enormous stress physicians experience when working to save the lives of others.

This memoir by Stephen Stowers, M.D., begins with a journey of what it took for him to become a practitioner. He credits his Grandpa and his neighbor for helping him realize he wanted to be a doctor.

Stowers reminiscences about many of the hardships faced when trying to make choices for patient care. He provides a provocative view of the need for learning new techniques, doing a complete chart review, following your instincts, and recognizing the commitment it takes to practice medicine.

After many years practicing in the United States, Stowers traveled to New Zealand to practice medicine there. He found he could provide caring and effective intervention. He quickly learns that many of his patients believe physical health and spiritual health are closely connected. And, it's in New Zeland he was able to find his own life balance while assisting others
